South Africa: Good Crime Statistics Website – Crime by City & Suburb
[Here’s a great crime stats website. I’m not sure if they’ve stopped updating as of the end of 2016. It looks like it. You can zoom in and view the crimes by city and suburb, nation-wide. I zoomed in on Johannesburg and most of the regions especially the suburbs where I live, you’ll see the crime is about 7,000-8,000 incidents per year per “area”. The areas cover one or more suburbs. A wealthy place like Sandton has 11,000 crimes per annum. The countryside seems to have less crime, but remember the population density is MUCH LOWER. So it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re safer in the countryside – a myth that many seem to believe and which runs completely contrary to actual experience. Jan]
