SA: Crime: Stock thieves arrested in Pietermaritzburg

Efforts to catch stock thieves has paid off, this is after a man and his accomplices were arrested with alleged stolen goats in Pietermaritzburg on the morning of 12 January 2021.

At 04:00, the Pietermaritzburg Stock Theft Unit received information of a bakkie along Ashburton road with alleged stolen stock. The police proceeded to the scene and spotted the suspected bakkie with four occupants and the goats hidden under a sail cover. Two suspects spotted the police vehicle and managed to flee the scene on foot, two were arrested.

Police questioned the occupants but they could not give an explanation about the livestock. They were immediately arrested and taken to Alexandra Road police station for detention. They were charged for stock theft and will appear in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court soon.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended police on the recoveries. “We will continue to fight stock theft in the province and applaud the members of the community who continue to work with the police in fighting crime in the province,” he said.
